Here we go! Ale ale ale, Portugal! Ale ale ale. Let’s travel to this mesmerizing country where travelers can’t help moving their bodies and cheering throughout the entire journey. Though outshone by its superstar neighbors to the east, particularly the “joie de vivre”France, the “la vita Italiana” Italy and the “fiestalicious” Spain, Portugal remains one of Europe’s unspoiled jewelry.  With the rapid expansion of its tourism industry, Portugal is no longer the hush-hush in the Iberian Peninsula.
Once a world-renowned seafaring nation, it’s not shocking to see countless historical treasures and an array of World Heritage sites scattered around its countryside. Both natural and cultural wonders blend in with each other seamlessly offering a magnificent gate into authentic Portugal. Hey, don’t let your mind wander back to Japan and stop the slideshows of the astounding torii gate in Miyajima, cherry blossoms in Kyoto and/or Nozomi Sasaki right away! We are in Europe now! Other than that, this Europe’s priceless gem boasts its old-fashioned appeal, with charming medieval castles and unblemished traditional villages dotted throughout the winding coastlines and flower-covered hillsides.
What more? It has notable vibrant cities you do not want to miss.

The Magic of Portugal

To understand how Portuguese magic works, look into its soul and you shall find that Portuguese love the feeling of discovery more than love itself. Tour the historical land, especially every step in the rarely visited places, offers a sentiment of similar kind. The country’s proud history is reflected from the ancient university town of Coimbra to Lord Byron’s favorite Portuguese haunt, Sintra. To further infiltrate Portuguese culture, indulge yourself in the revelry of traditional festivals or enjoy an evening bar hopping in the Bairro Alto and discover the melancholic music of Portuguese blues-fado! Oh, the mouth-watering fruits of the sea and classic port wine should not be missed too. However, above all, the real killer is the kaleidoscope of various gorgeous settings. Nestled in the heart of the fabulous historic neighborhood, travelers can choose to stay overnight at either rambling manor houses (country house) or converted medieval monasteries, urban townhouses or graceful beach resorts. It’s so fantastic that travelers almost forget where they come.
Another magnetic element that helps expand its tourism industry by leaps and bounds is the bounty of nature especially the picturesque countryside. Away from cities, travelers can pamper themselves in the warmth of sun while discovering centuries-old vineyards or tranquil stone villages in the mountains. Keep exploring and you find spectacular panorama unfolds one after one before you from windswept end-of-the-world precipices to untamed dune-covered beaches. Indeed, the secluded coves and stretched, sandy islands of Portugal’s coastline have long captivated both international and local tourists. Beach hopping or soaking up rays on the remarkable southern shoreline in sun-kissed seaside like Sagres and Cascais helps realize your hedonistic fantasies. The beauty of this Utopia may haunt you the rest of the days.
Meanwhile, vivacious cities and sexy Portuguese chicks are a nitrous boost to the heart. The country’s capital, Lisbon, is perhaps Europe’s most pleasing and affordable city. It utterly brings out the best elements of Portuguese life with its breath-taking architecture, fascinating tile-work, assorted population, scrumptious seafood and non-stop night life, just to name a few. Another “hooray” city, Porto, is said to be Lisbon’s counterpart in the north as it also offers wanderers with vivid boutiques, diverse restaurants, riverside views bohemian cafes, and stylish nightclubs capitalizing on waterside settings. These two magical cities may still not be interesting enough to you until you walk pass looming cathedrals, extensive plazas and old-fashioned trams clattering through the cobblestone streets. Smaller towns such as Coimbra, Braga, Evora, and Guimaraes glitter in their own charms offering well-preserved medieval quarters that beckon to tourists amiably off the street.

3 Reasons Why I Love Portugal

It’s hard to find even one solid reason to tell why I love Portugal, because love is an inexplicable feeling. Alright, stop talking nonsense. Below are the three absurd reasons I get after squeezing my mind. Oops, I mean searching my heart.
  • The most charming prince and ladies’ man international footballer Christiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese! If he is tired of playing football, he can consider moving to the America and make the flourishing Hollywood even more superb. Hey, stop booing. I just told you it’s an idiosyncratic reason and personal preference.
  • I understand that its cities are eclipsed by other Europe superstar cities like Paris, Rome, Barcelona and others, but it does have its own charm especially the wonderful landscape diversity in account of its North-South disposition along the western shore of the Iberian Peninsula. It’s as if every spot in the map gives you a fresh-looking sight.
  • I wonder if it were due to the mutant discovery cells in the Portuguese that pushed them to travel around the world and conquer lands back in great grandma century. The world is after all a big book and those that don’t travel read only one page. Also, I’m curious to find out what the people there is made of that they could restore the country after its fall, just like how Japanese in Hiroshima and Okinawa Island rebuilt their cities after ruined by atomic bomb in WWII. Yea, I love Portugal!
