Let’s travel to Switzerland, particularly its famous global cities Zurich and Geneva to indulge in the first and second highest quality of life in the world. This neutral and peaceful land is a landlocked alpine country nestled in the cocoon of central Europe. Though it is one of the richest countries in the world by per capita gross domestic product, it is not so snobbish as to welcome only multi-millionaires for jet-set parties. Indeed, Switzerland can be a splendid whirlwind trip offering pleasant climate throughout the country especially its distinct geographical regions of Swiss Alps and Jura Mountains.
So what are you waiting for now? Pack your clothing, snowboard, hiking boots and sunglasses and increase the aura of discovery you felt in Portugal right away. We are heading to the balmy Switzerland.
The Magic of Switzerland
Of course it doesn’t take a millionaire to be able to travel in Switzerland, but if you have limited time or you are just broke and only able to travel to one European country, where would you go? Option A – France, Option B – Italy, Option C – Germany, Option D – France-Italy-Germany Switzerland. What? Option D is blurring. Let’s make it clear. Except the breath-taking bullfightsSpain, you could virtually taste all the flavors of Europe big 3 here. Switzerland is a multifaceted country of cohabiting culture; Sausage-eating and beer-drinking German-speaking land in the northeast, the wine drinking and high fashion shopping virus trickle smoothly into France in the southwest while the cappuccino aficionados are caught hanging around in Italian-style plazas in the southeast. The central part features classic Swiss flugelhorns and mountain backdrops. The cultural variety is harmonized with the four national languages; German, French, Italian and Romansh. The assimilation of all these elements showcases a unique Swiss mentality. If the versatility of its culture makes you dizzy, the country’s thermal baths are your salvation. The most notable one is Yverdon-les-Bains which boasts its location in the heart of a natural setting formed by the Jura Mountains, the hills of the Broye, the plains of the Orbe and the Lake Neuchatel. The thermal springs are going to give you the sense of déjà vu. Yes! That’s the Arima Onsen inKobe and Yumoto Onsen in Nikko, Japan.
Far away from the culturally rich centers lies the popular Alps après-ski (hanging out, having drinks, dancing, and generally socializing after skiing), edelweiss (one of the best-known European mountain flowers) and Heidi (a novel about the events in the life of a young girl in her grandfather’s care, in the Swiss Alps). Switzerland is globally recognized as a summer and winter sports dreamland. With the gleaming white 4000+ m Alpine peaks and scintillating lakes leading the way, this stylish tourist destination offers countless first-class ski resorts such as Zermatt, Verbier and the celebrity-studded St Moritz. Summer moments and hiking trips are made alive by the spectacular background of the white peaks mountains set against blue skies. Besides, Interlaken, Gstaad and Jungfrau are other memorable names that evoke all the quixotic drama featuring life in high mountains.
What about city highlights? Geneva is tagged as the most cosmopolitan city, Basel, Lausanne and the largest city Zurich feature invigorating artistic events and bubbly nightlife, from opera and top-notch theatre to chic nightclubs and bistros, these places are where you pamper yourself with chilled-out moments. Penetrate the ancient capital of Berne to enjoy shopping spree, sightseeing and traditional folk entertainment. Other than that, covered bridge in Lucerne, dazzling fountains in Neuchatel, most sought after cheese in Gruyeres, traditional timber houses in Grimentz and the sgraffito-blazoned architectures of Engadine towns like Scuol and Zuoz are the highlights in the list charming towns that you must not miss. Miss it and you have not yet been to Switzerland; Miss it and you are a travel dummy. What else you can’t miss? The contrast between the splendor of the finest churches, like the cathedrals in Lausanne and Berne, and the glittering UNESCO World Heritage sites of frescoes of Mustair and the abbey complex of St Gallen. From discovering the remotest Ticino villages to sampling the most exclusive Valais wines, only exploratory travelers could get the most out of this chocolate box bursting with unanticipated tastes. Hence, diabetes or heart attack patients do not visit Switzerland as you would either die eating the delicious and sweet chocolate or being struck by the unexpected things spread out before you. I’m kidding.

3 Reasons Why I Love Switzerland
There’s so much to talk about Switzerland that I could easily summon up 1000 reasons to fall in love with it. Anyway, different people have different perspectives and the reasons vary. Here are the 3 reasons that bashful me could think out at this moment.
- The Swiss Alps! There are so many romantic spots in the world. Simply name few are Paris, Venice, Barcelona, or more particularly the cherry blossoms and autumn foliage in Naraand sunset moments in Kamakura, Japan. There are just too many. But as far as snow romance is concerned, what could be better than the dreamy Swiss Alps?
- I’m not only seeking nature in this Alpine country, but I’m jumping on the bandwagon of Swiss products which are sought after the world over. I want to taste its yummy cheese and lip-smacking chocolate and purchase the deluxe watches whose timekeeping is said to be as razor-sharp as a Swiss Army Knife.
- You know what’s the fun of traveling other than whatever reasons I have suggested in this site? It’s the joy of sipping different languages from various ethnic. In this magical land, the people speak not German, not French, not Italian and not Romansh but they speak all. They are no difference from each other but all sharing the Swiss attitude. Hey, thinking of this sole point, could you understand how jumpy I’m now? I’m simply linguistics. I love Switzerland!
